Continuity
Care that doesn't start again at every appointment.
Dr Michael Battat is the practice's sole GP, so your care stays with the same doctor. Your history does too.
Our story
Chapel Street Medical Centre was established by Dr Michael Battat more than four decades ago. It remains a general practice where care is built around knowing patients over time.

Our history
Chapel Street Medical Centre has been part of the St Kilda community for more than four decades, providing local general practice care throughout that time.
Community
We welcome patients of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities and abilities, with care that is respectful, inclusive and accessible.
A straightforward history, built on continuity rather than scale.
1970
Dr Michael Battat graduates from the University of Melbourne with an MBBS.
1980
Dr Battat establishes Chapel Street Medical Centre in St Kilda and begins seeing patients there as a GP.
2026
Dr Battat remains the practice's sole GP, supported by the people who keep the practice running and on-site podiatry.

Accreditation means the practice is assessed by an independent accrediting body against the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners' Standards for general practices. The assessment covers how the practice is run, from patient safety and clinical records to its systems, policies and staff.
Chapel Street has been accredited since 1997. Accreditation is renewed on a three-year cycle, so the practice must continue to meet those standards rather than passing a one-off assessment.
